• What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Cosmetic Acupuncture is a natural way to improve the
appearance and feel of the complexion. Many people
seek treatment to help with problem skin such as acne,
rosacea and eczema (dermatitis, e.g. atopic,
seborrheric). It is also an increasingly popular
alternative to invasive injections, fillers and chemical
treatments.

Cosmetic Acupuncture is a whole-body treatment, based
on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which,
as a holistic treatment, heals and enhances the whole
body. As a result common positive effects of treatment
also include improved sleep, energy and digestion.

How does Cosmetic Acupuncture work?
  • It stimulates increased blood circulation to the
    skin, improving oxygenation and enabling
    detoxification and lymph circulation. This
improves skin tone, colour and texture.
  • The fine needles create openings within the
skin stimulating the natural production of
collagen, which plumps up the skin.
  • It stimulates muscles in the face. We are
working with various muscles in the face.
Needles are used to stimulate the muscles
    and tighten them.
  • The intradermal needles cause non-visible
    tissue damage, which stimulates a
    wound-healing response and increases cell
    regeneration, improving skin texture
  • Hormones play a key role in the appearance
of our skin - acne-type hormonal imbalances,
stress-related skin problems and ageing as
    oestrogen levels decline. Acupuncture helps
the skin by regulating and balancing hormones.
What our patients said

My skin is SO good, I feel like myself again
and I'm getting so many comments on how
bright I look.

I think it's only when you've had such awful
skin that you truly appreciate how liberating
it is to not having to worry about foundation
and concealer all the time...you've changed
my life and I'm so grateful.

- Alice, 28

  • Does it hurt?
  • The needles used for facial acupuncture are
incredibly fine and are inserted to a depth of just
a few millimeters. Some people feel a tingling or
warmth to the face, and this is desirable. Most
people find the treatment incredibly relaxing.
  • Are there any side effects?
  • Occasionally a point may bleed slightly when the
needle is removed, sometimes this is desirable as
it releases heat from the skin. On rare occasions
a small bruise may appear. If this seems likely
    then arnica will be applied.
  • How long will it take to see results from
    Cosmetic Acupuncture?
  • Cosmetic Acupuncture is a natural treatment, so
improvements are not instant, but over a course
of treatment can be very significant. A course of
at least 6 weekly treatments is recommended,
    with a monthly 'top-up' thereafter.

In the days following treatment, most people
notice that their skin condition and tone
improves and often report that they receive
lots of complements on how well they look -
you will glow from the inside out!

We offer two types of cosmetic acupuncture;
the anti-ageing facial and the problem skin
facial
. Both treatment options start with a
cosmetic acupuncture consultation.

  • Cosmetic Acupuncture Consultation

All clients start with a consultation, this begins with
Charlotte taking a detailed medical history and includes
a discussion of lifestyle factors such as exposure to
environmental pollutants and chemicals, nutrition and
stress levels, all of which have an impact on the skin.

A detailed skincare analysis is then conducted which
covers skin type, skin concerns, regular skincare regime
and brand of products currently used.

From the medical history, lifestyle factors and skincare
analysis Charlotte will prescribe the appropriate course
of cosmetic acupuncture treatment; the anti-ageing
facial
or the problem skin facial.

Charlotte uses Weleda organic and natural facial
skincare for all Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments
and you are encouraged to use the products
recommended for you during the course of your
treatment.

  • Anti-ageing Facial

The anti-ageing facial is a highly specialised, very
effective facial. Each facial is bespoke and tailored to
the client's specific concerns.

A typical treatment consists of the following:
  • Very fine needles stimulate acupuncture points
on the body to promote relaxation and to provide
    balance.
  • A Weleda cleanser is selected on the basis of
skin type and skin condition. This will remove
impurities and make-up from the skin gently and
effectively, without drying it out. If a gentle
cleansing milk is selected this will be followed by
a toner. Toner balances and restores the skin's
natural pH and makes the skin receptive to the
    subsequent products.
  • Very fine needles stimulate points on the face to
help lift the skin and enhance complexion.
  • Intradermal needles (tiny facial needles) are
used in fine lines and wrinkles, such as the
forehead, between the eyebrows, crow's feet
(lines around the eyes) and nasal-labial lines
    (nose to corner of mouth).
  • Needles are left in place for 15 minutes and
    then removed.
  • A mild eye cream is applied to the eye area,
which cares for and protects the thin and
    delicate skin around the eyes.
  • A Weleda facial masque, facial oil or serum
is applied, selected on the basis of skin type
and skin condition. These products help the
skin to find its natural balance more easily
    and quickly.
  • The treatment is finished with a relaxing
and restorative facial massage using a
Weleda day cream or moisturiser and cooling
jade roller. This helps the skin to maintain its
softness and elasticity and to better cope
    with the elements.

  • Problem Skin Facial

The Problem Skin facial is specifically tailored for clients
who suffer from acne or problem skin (oily skin, rashes,
e.g. rosacea and dermatitis - including dry, flaky, itchy skin
& eczema).

Problem skin can strike at any age, not just
teenagers. The stresses of a hectic lifestyle
and changes in hormones, e.g. at particular life
stages, such as adolescence, pregnancy or
menopause, all influence skin.

Each treatment is bespoke but
typically consists of the following:

  • Very fine needles stimulate acupuncture points on
the body to promote relaxation, to provide balance
and regulate hormones, which will help to treat the
root cause of specific skin concerns
  • Skin is cleansed with Weleda cleansing lotion,
selected on the basis of skin type and condition.
This might be followed with a toner to balance and
    restore the skin's natural pH
  • Aknedoron purifying lotion may be applied if there
are spots and breakouts. Aknedoron helps regulate
oil production, restores texture and balance and is
gentle with no harsh drying effects.
  • Intradermal needles are used to surround problem
areas, stimulating increased blood circulation to the
    skin, improving oxygenation and enabling
    detoxification and lymph circulation.
  • Needles are left in place for 15-20 minutes
    and then removed.
  • The treatment is finished with a relaxing and
    restorative facial massage using Weleda
    almond soothing moisturiser and cooling
jade roller. Almond moisturiser is formulated
with pure ingredients carefully selected to be
soothing and kind. It calms sensitive skin,
    reduces irritation and redness, whilst
restoring the skin's natural balance and
    replenishing its protective barrier.

  • Weleda

Charlotte uses Weleda's organic and natural facial
skin care for all cosmetic acupuncture treatments.
These products work to maintain health and the
skin's individual balance. The skin is vitalised and
its natural processes, such as how it breathes and
absorbs nutrients, are improved. This doesn't just
occur on the surface, but also deep down.

External stresses, such as environmental
pollutants, chemicals, stress, even a person's
genetics and lifestyle, can sometimes mean that
the skin needs help to retain the correct balance.
Weleda products provide the skin with "instructions"
on how to do this. The aim of the products is to
help the skin to help itself.

Weleda

A central element is the use of natural,
cold-pressed vegetable oils. They are
extracted from the most valuable parts of the
plant, including from seeds and fruits that
have matured with warmth and sunlight.
Cold-pressed vegetable oils are similar to the
fats found in human skin and are therefore
easily absorbed by the skin. They also
provide the skin with vitamins, antioxidants
and important fatty acids. They are optimal
for use in facial products, as they care for
and soften the skin, whilst also protecting
and nourishing it and allowing it to breathe.

Weleda also uses natural essential oils in its
facial products. They are carefully composed
to provide a therapeutic effect on the senses,
to have a pleasing fragrance and to have a
preservative effect on the product.
